The School Tour
Level 3 Sounds to look out for: mixed sounds
Everyone in 4th Class was excited. Today was the school tour to the zoo! The bus left the school yard at nine o'clock, and the whole class sang songs all the way there.
First, they visited the giraffes. They were so tall that Rory had to lean right back to see their heads. One giraffe stretched out its long purple tongue to eat leaves from the very top of a tree.
Next came the penguins. They waddled along the rocks and then dived into the water, swimming as fast as little rockets. Ella pressed her nose against the glass to watch them.
At lunchtime, the class sat on the grass to eat their sandwiches. A cheeky red panda watched them from its tree, as if it wanted to join in.
In the afternoon, they saw lions sleeping in the sun, monkeys swinging from ropes, and a huge elephant spraying water with its trunk.
On the bus home, the teacher asked everyone to choose their favourite animal. Rory picked the giraffe. Ella picked the penguins. Everyone agreed it had been the best school tour ever.
- What time did the bus leave?
- What did the giraffe eat?
- What did the penguins look like when they swam?
- Which animal would be your favourite? Why?
