The Lost Kite
Level 3 Sounds to look out for: mixed sounds
It was a windy Saturday, so Aoife and her brother Cian took their new kite to the beach. The kite was bright orange with a long, wavy tail.
Cian held the string while Aoife ran along the sand. The wind lifted the kite higher and higher, until it was just a little orange dot in the sky.
Then a big gust of wind came. The string slipped out of Cian's hands! The kite flew over the rocks and landed at the top of a tall sand dune.
Aoife and Cian climbed up the dune. It was steep and the sand kept sliding. But they helped each other, one step at a time.
At the top, they found the kite caught in the long grass. A seagull was standing right next to it, looking very pleased with itself.
The children laughed, picked up the kite and ran back down. This time, Cian tied the string around his wrist. They flew the kite until the sun went down, tired, sandy and very proud.
- What colour was the kite?
