Brilliant Brains

Every brain learns in its own way, and every brain is brilliant. Spraoi is built from the start for every child, including autistic children and children with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (DCD) and developmental language disorder (DLD).

Different ways of learning

Some children learn differently. Every brain has its own strengths. Here's what the words mean, in plain English.

DyscalculiaNumbers and maths facts can be a challenge to understand and remember, such as telling which number is bigger, counting on, or learning times tables. It has nothing to do with how clever a child is.Superpowers: Often creative, great with words and stories, and very determined.Famous people: Larry Mullen Jr. (U2 drummer), Cher, Robbie WilliamsJobs where these strengths shine: writer, teacher, musician, actor, nurse, artist
DyslexiaReading and spelling can be a challenge, especially linking letters to their sounds.Superpowers: Often big-picture thinkers, creative problem-solvers and great talkers and storytellers.Famous people: Steven Spielberg, Richard Branson, Jamie OliverJobs where these strengths shine: entrepreneur, architect, engineer, chef, designer, film-maker
ADHDKeeping attention on one thing, sitting still or waiting can be a challenge. Short tasks, movement breaks and seeing how long is left really help.Superpowers: Often full of energy, curious, brave and creative, and can focus brilliantly on things they love.Famous people: Dav Pilkey (author of Dog Man), Simone Biles, Michael PhelpsJobs where these strengths shine: entrepreneur, teacher, chef, firefighter, journalist, athlete
Dyspraxia (DCD)Movement and coordination can be a challenge, such as handwriting, using scissors or getting organised.Superpowers: Often determined, kind, creative and full of original ideas.Famous people: Daniel Radcliffe, Florence Welch, Cara DelevingneJobs where these strengths shine: writer, actor, lawyer, counsellor, teacher, scientist
DLDDevelopmental Language Disorder: understanding and using spoken language can be a challenge, such as following instructions or finding the right words.Superpowers: Often hard-working, practical, kind and great at learning by seeing and doing.Did you know? DLD is very common: about 2 children in every classroom have it.Jobs where these strengths shine: engineer, photographer, chef, carpenter, IT technician, artist
AutismExperiences the world in their own way, often with a love of routine. Calm spaces and knowing what comes next help them feel at ease.Superpowers: Often honest, loyal, great at noticing details and patterns, with deep knowledge of the things they love.Famous people: Temple Grandin (scientist and inventor), Susan Boyle, Chris Packham (TV naturalist)Jobs where these strengths shine: doctor, scientist, computer programmer, engineer, artist, vet

Every brain can do any job. These are just a few places where these strengths are a real asset.

Spraoi is for practice and fun. It isn't a treatment or a diagnosis – if you have questions about your child's learning, their teacher is the best person to talk to.
